Leadership Workshops
Our team provides opportunities for members of the Bobcat community to learn how to become transformational, ethical leaders. Texas State students, faculty, and staff can request individually designed leadership workshops that develop leadership competencies.

For students only:

Foundations of Leadership
For students who are new to leadership, our foundations of leadership workshop offer a framework for understanding key concepts and building basic leadership skills. Participants will practice active listening and will participate in several engaging exercises to help them feel comfortable jumping into leadership and pursuing leadership opportunities. Workshop duration is 45 minutes.

How to Find and Pursue Leadership Positions
With so many leadership opportunities at Texas State, this workshop serves as your first stop to finding new opportunities to lead that are most compatible with your skillsets and student needs. Learn about programs built for first time leaders and build up your leadership profile by getting tips and tricks for how to apply for and pursue leadership positions. Do you want to be on the E-Board of your organization or apply for a student leader position? This workshop is built to help you succeed at these goals. Workshop duration is 45 minutes.

Conflict Management
Conflict is inevitable when working in groups. This workshop helps us explore how we can navigate conflict using healthy strategies. Participants will also take an assessment to figure out their conflict management style through the form of Animal Conflict Management Styles. Learning your conflict management animal will help participants understand how to address conflict with others and when it is most appropriate to utilize different conflict styles. Participants will leave this workshop with a better understanding of how to get from Conflict to resolution and with strategies to address conflict that are catered towards their own personalities and tendencies. Workshop duration is 1 hour.

Group Dynamics and Teamwork
The 7 stages of Group Dynamics provide a framework for understanding how groups function. This workshop will utilize fun team bonding activities to demonstrate each phase of building positive group dynamics. Through the team bonding exercises groups will learn how to go from being a group to being a team and will gain important skills such as communication, active listening and collaboration. Groups will also create a group skills inventory that can be utilized as they continue to work together throughout their time as a group. Workshop duration is 1 hour. This workshop requires a room reservation with plenty of open space or the ability to move furniture.

Facilitating a Meeting
This workshop teaches participants how to build a strong meeting agenda, ways to captures attention and engagement during meetings utilizing strategic and creative methods such as visual aids and activities, and how to accomplish organizational goals. Facilitating a good meeting is not easy, but this workshop will take participants through the basics of making sure your meeting is purposeful, engaging and beneficial to your team. Participants will practice meeting facilitation strategies and will walk away with templates, meeting activities and more. Workshop duration is 1 hour.

Understanding and Mapping Your Leadership Style
The National Leadership Honor Society defines seven main leadership styles. This hands-on workshop will help you learn your dominant leadership style through mapping your personal attributes and skills. Participants will create their own leadership maps that they can utilize as a tool for personal reflection and growth and will participate in group discussion around the seven leadership styles. Workshop duration is 1 hour.

Programming and Event Planning
This workshop will help participants develop their programming and event planning skills through an activity called experience mapping. Utilizing experience mapping, participants can learn how to build more intentional programs and events and can have a stronger sense of detail orientation when it comes to building experiences for their perspective audiences. This workshop will also help students understand programming resources available to them as Texas State students. Workshop duration is 1 hour.

CliftonStrengths
The CliftonStrengths assessment is a performance-based tool that builds self-awareness and strength. In this session, participants will learn about their top five personal strengths. During the workshop we will discuss what these strengths mean and how we can utilize them to become stronger leaders and leverage our skills for success. This session requires participants to take a pre-workshop assessment. The workshop duration is 1 hour.

True Colors
True Colors is an attempt to identify various personality styles and label them with colors. True Colors provides participants with their natural personality traits and tendencies. Workshop participants will utilize true colors to understand how they show up in group dynamics and will learn how to utilize the four colors to work harmoniously with others. The workshop duration is 1 hour.

DiSC Assessment
DiSC stands for Dominance, Influence, Steadiness and Compliance. Participants will take a pre workshop assessment to determine whether they lead with D, I, S or C. During the workshop we will break down each type of leadership style and assess how members can utilize their DiSC style to positively contribute towards their organization’s goals and their own personal leadership goals. Our workshop will also help participants learn how they can work with opposing DiSC styles and collaborate effectively by understanding the psychology behind DiSC personalities. The workshop duration is 1 hour.
